Lisatime - Review

Reported by Clubchick / Submitted 23-07-03 11:48

Last Saturday....Camden Palace........bangin, sweaty, dirty. What do you think I'm talking about.....oh yes, it was DEFINITELY LISATIME. Got to the Palace at about 10.30 and was absolutely gobsmacked at the amount of people queueing up. It went on and on. I have never seen so many people.....It was like a carnival, everyone dressed up in fab party clothes...to be part of this MASSIVE FRANTIC event.

Thanks to the FRANTIC organisers, the queues went smoothly. Decided to take our friend clubbing as she's never been to a super club before. We had a little bit of bother at the door with security. They can be quite intimidating but as i've been before I was expecting it. I wasn't going to let that spoil my night. Straight away as I entered the doors of the palace I was hypnotised by the sound of Guffy's electifying hardtunes...like 'need your emotion'. I just wanted to run onto the dance floor but of course forgot about the queue for the cloakroom. I was like a child in a candy store. I kept pulling my fiancee's hand to come dancing even though he still hadn't put in the coats. My friend looked quite shocked and a little scared as I don't think she's seen me quite so excited before. I ran to see the line up. Got redbull in one hand, lipbalm in the other.....I was ready to hit the floor for some serious bouncing!!!!

This is the first time I've been to camden where there were so many people. Unbelievable crowd. Everyone had so much energy. Ok, It was also a very sweaty crowd but we'll try and forget that! It was WICKED.....We got there as Guffy was ending his set. Bloody fantastic. I was lucky enough to somehow get backstage passes so I got to stand a few yards behind him as he was coming off his set. My fiancee put Guffy in a headlock until I asked him some questions about up and coming DJ's for 2004. (Joking about the headlock). Guffy reckons we should look out for Shan, who is a Hi NRG DJ. Also Adam Sheridan who is a more of a Trance DJ.

Above the crowd

Next up was Cally & Juice....and boy do these guys have JUICE. I absolutely loved their set and the crowd was begging for it. It's so cool to hear music that is so uplifting but yet so fresh. London could definitely do with a breath of fresh air like these boys....The crowd were going mad. Pounding out tunes like 'Raw Remix 1', & one of Mauro Picotto's tunes...Their set also had some breakbeat, techno, scratching and playing their new age hardhouse...I just couldn't stop smiling. They just seemed to be having so much energy & fun jumping around on stage. The crowd were a bit confused at first when they slowed it right down to a few break beats but when Cally & Juice cranked it back up to speed the crowd were right back up there again with them. I was so excited, especially my fiancee, he was bouncing around to their scratching techniques. Their energy scaled the walls of Camden Palace. Well done boys! Next up on stage was one of Frantics finest Phil Reynolds.

He opened his set with a classic... 'Can't get no sleep' by Micardo. He gave a really great performance. Frantic team should be proud. Well done. We got an extra 20 mins out of Phil time, which the crowd loved, as Lisa Lashes was late on stage. Phil ended his session with a great tune 'Escalation' by Dave Lochrie. I had a walk around to see the crowd, everyone was focused on Phil Reynolds. It was great!

Lisa Lashes

Lisa's performance was not as good as I expected. I have always wanted to see her perform but was disappointed. She didn't seem to be having fun or enjoying the music like all the other DJ's. Also her style is a bit too hard for my taste. She did play a few good tunes though like 99.9. Later in the night I tried to ask Lisa a few questions about her set but she wasn't interested. I had heard rumours about her Diva like antics but I got to see it for real.

We then moved up to the White room where we saw Tara Reynolds......She had some bangin' tunes going. I felt her music had much more energy, taking us on a great journey. But it was far too hot to stay upstairs, everyone was sweating, worse than a sauna. Tara must have felt the heat too.

We made our way down to the main stage for the fantastic LAB 4. Wow! what a great set. We stood above them and looked down to see them perform on their keyboards. Such fantastic performers. I loved their style, it was very definitely harder, faster, dirtier. By the time 6am came, everyone was screaming out for another LAB 4 tune. I'll certainly be back for more. Big thanks to Dickon from Frantic who made our night extra special.

With thanks to mrbicgit for the use of his photos Thumbs up
