Terrible, IMO an IP address doesn't mean sh*t.

There may have been other factors... like the fact he admitted doing it?

Seriouslah?

To be honest it surprises me this is a landmark case. I would have expected it in the T&Cs of any site that personal details will be made available to the police if reasonable proof is presented that a forum poster is involved in an illiegal activity, and therefore would have expected a case like this to come to conclusion before now. -From www.computercontractor.org

The ability of users of internet bulletin boards to remain anonymous was placed in serious doubt yesterday after Terry Smith, chief executive of City firm Collins Stewart Tullett, won a landmark libel settlement.

Mr Smith and his firm won "substantial" damages from Jeremy Benjamin, a fund manager who posted false allegations on the Motley Fool web site using the invented web name "analyser71".

Interesting.

Truth is a complete defence for libel.

Plus wouldn't he have to have a reputation (as something other than an utter cunt) that's been tarnished?

Only by learning from the mistakes we've committed in the past can we truly improve the quality of the mistakes we will make in the future.

Seen it all. You'd think they would have learned their lesson after trying to rip off a famous Childrens book for a party before.
Oh well, originality isn't somethign everyone is gifted with.
