November Trance Chart
(artist/title/mix/label)
(1.) Trancience: ‘Trial By Fire’ (Sly One vs Jurrane remix) – CDR
Forthcoming on Future State Records, our new remix is shaping up very nicely indeed. Expect some nice energetic trance with more than a touch of Darren Tate about it – I’ll post clips on my website and MySpace page as soon as they’re ready.
(2.) Ali Wilson & Clodagh: ‘Mechanised’ (original mix) – Tekelec
Absolutely blinding tech-trance that, to me, sounds like it’s been made by machines, for machines. A lot of the stuff on Tekelec is a bit techno for me but this is perfect for my trance sets, with a driving groove to die for. Superb.
(3.) Tony de Vit: ‘The Dawn’ (Bryan Kearney remix) - Tidy
Bryan Kearney remixes the most sacred of sacred cows in ‘The Dawn’ and does a damn fine job. By far the standout track on Tidy’s new ‘Trashed’ releases and this great rework further underlines Kearney’s credentials as one of the finest new producers out there.
(4.) Plastic Angel: ‘Try Walking In My World’ (Daniel Kandi remix) – Afterglow
While sounding almost too-close to a certain other recent trance track I won’t name, this is a lovely piece of uplifting melodic trance by one of the producers who’s done it best this year. Another fantastic release for Afterglow who seem to get it right nearly every time.
(5.) Nicholas Bennison: ‘Turbomachinery’ (original mix) - Propulsion
I’ve yet to find a Nicholas Bennison track I don’t like and this is no exception. Dark, driving psy-influenced trance is the order of the day here with the same intensity that made me like ‘The Dawning’ so much. Bennison is on fire this year.
(6.) Yoshi: ‘The Sound Barrier’ (original mix) – Addiction
One for the harder floors or those end-of-night sets. I love playing stuff like this in my closing sets at Planet Angel and will certainly be giving this one an airing in November. Tough, driving Edison Factor-style hard trance with a great bouncy bassline – I love it.
(7.) Claudia Cazacu: ‘Cowgirl’ (Thr3rshold remix) – Couture
One of those cheeky reworks that’s more a cover version than a remix, this takes the Underworld classic and melds it into a pounding tech-trancer. The vocal’s been re-recorded, of course, but complements the track really well and guarantees one of those instant-recognition moments on the dancefloor.
(8.) A/B Project: ‘Misconceptions’ (Tom Colontonio remix) - Mondo
I always associated Tom Colontonio with the driving, melodically-minimal Discover sound but between his recent remix of Barent Blue and this lovely uplifting trancer, he proves he can do the melodic stuff equally well. Great peak-time stuff with a lovely positive feel and another strong release for Mondo.
(9.) Armin van Buuren: ‘The Sound Of Goodbye’ (Simon & Shaker remix) – Armind
Simon & Shaker are up there with my favourite prog producers and here they turn in a classy rework of the AVB vocal trance classic. The dark, minimal sound of the production works perfectly with the vocal and adds a new dimension to a tried-and-tested track: exactly what a good remix should do.
(10.) Above & Beyond: ‘Home’ (Above & Beyond club mix) – Anjunabeats
Lovely feelgood vocal trance from Above & Beyond who transform one of the downtempo tracks from their recent album into an uplifting anthem that’ll have the crowds singing along. Destined to be another Anjunabeats classic – and can you believe the label’s up to its 100th release? Wow…
