So i got a full mix analysis from a mastering studio, who also employ mix engineers.
Fair to say they went in quite hard on my mixing.
I have only been mixing a year so all the stuff i found a challenge in this one track, was shown to me in detail and pin pointed brutally.
I would recommend this process, i paid an extra £30 i think for it.
The things they pointed out were,
Low end floppy for intro. (i already knew this, but i got fed up and just sent it, spent way too long faffing on this track)
Bass needs more high harmonics.
Drums need more than just hats on top.
Drums sound muffled (I intended for the rim shot to be muffled using decimort and low passing with bit reduction, so i don\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t know if they caught onto that?)
Need more energy in the 2-5k region (fair enough i usually find this area a bitch because too much and its harsh)
Vocals sound submerged (I did a high pass and low pass to actually give that effect like a telephone so i don\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t know if that is what they mean)
Busy mix creating conflicting instruments (piano is on the go a lot of the time with a fliter cut off rising, very hard to EQ as it is always evolving)
They are great suggestions but has anyone ever had this service before and it is hard to take it all in because artistic decisions were made to create that muffled rim etc.
