I can't wait to get one of these beauties. 400 of your British pounds.

As the technology improves we're slowly seeing to format reaching its full potential. In a few years it'll truly be mind-blowing what you can do.

Can't you configure a normal midi controller to do that anyway?
I mean, this device isn't exactly re-inventing the wheel for ableton users.

[edit]

Just watched the 2nd video, and ok, that was more impressive.
Arguably the lights make for a more intuitive interface than using a midi keyboard (which is what I do now)

Dave - Check the links below out before commiting to the APC - You can get two Novation Launch Pads for the price of one APC.

The only draw back may be the lack of faders, but I you could buy one Launch Pad and still have enough to get a fader controller!

Ableton controller link 1

Ableton Controller Link 2

Price is awesome too

First video sounds like someone falling down some stairs.

Are all Ableton sets just random button pushing, or is there a sense of flow that goes on with performances with gear like this?

From the majority of bits I've seen on the internets, it's all random button mashing tied in to random clips...

Second video is quite interesting though, but again, do performers really put that much effort into the mashing of buttons when it comes to a club situation?

I think the vids are meant as more or a show to demonstrate what can be done with the controler although it doesn't help with the guy just mashing buttons the whole time - Waiting a few minutes till the next mix or whatever before pressing buttons would make for a long clip of mostly music - They are also some of the only clips I could find as the controller hasn't been released yet.

You can be as hands as you want, mostly for myself I would be launching full scenes and clips and not doing so much of the button mashing. Can you imagine how sore your fingers would be after an hour and a half set of that. Laughs out loud

It's a hardware demo not a club mix

Personally I use ableton to create dance/rock hybrid sets that wouldn't be possible with vinyl/CDs
