Banco de Gaia

» Igizeh : 20th Anniversary Edition

Reviewed by Pete M / Submitted 24-06-20 10:13

Label: Disco Gecko Recordings
Format: 2 x CD
Genre: Electronica

Banco de Gaia's re-issues continue! Igizeh is the latest album to receive the full deluxe treatment by Disco Gecko. The album is given a second disc of remixes; some new, some classic. Shall we get started?

For the first disc, its pretty much as you were. Its the original album given a new remastering for 2020. Each track sounds amazing and in my opinion, they've done a really good job of sprucing up the sound. Standouts for me are Seti I, Obsidian and How Much Reality Can You Take?, which was remixed by Jack Dangers of Meat Beat Manifesto. The album is more ethnic this time round; showing Banco's prowess of producing beautiful soundscapes. On this album, he travelled to Egypt and was ever to record sounds inside the Great Pyramids of Gizeh. The end result is an album of wonder. I like it. A lot. Nice to chill to.

On the second disc, Igizeh is given a host of remixes; some of these are new with classic mixes thrown in for good measure. Its essentially the same tracklisting as the original album but with remixes of the tracks. Radium88, Jack Dangers and dr trippy make appearances. My faves are the 100th Monkey and Jack Dangers mixes of Fake It Til You Make It and How Much Reality Can You Take?, the second appearing in a previously vinyl-only dub mix. Dreadzone take on Glove Puppet and Banco de Gaia himself reworks Creme Egg. Nice Indian/Arabic vibes on both mixes.

As with previous re-issues, the album is only available in limited physical copies with no downloads or streams available. So get it while you can. Wiggles
