Label: Disco Gecko Recordings
Format: Digital
Genre: Dance / Electronica

100th Monkey is a long-time collaborator with Banco de Gaia; as if to prove that, he's appeared on almost every remix edition of Banco's albums. I say almost, he didn't have an appearance on Ollopa, the remix edition of Apollo.

With this remix EP, 100th Monkey drops 3 mixes from a recent artist album. An album released in 2019 called Space Dubs and Other Miscellany 1992-2017. Leave Trace, Icescape and Albert drop remixes. Leave Trace provides a mix of Until The Dawn that was actually a bootleg mix which impressed the label so much, they decided to use it as the lead mix on this EP. Its an ambient mix that is good for meditation or yoga. Nice work.

Icescape provides a remix, well, an alternative mix, of The Inuit Snow Song that appeared on Strange-Eyed Constellations many moons ago now. The mix here is the main mix, as opposed to the Beats mix on that comp. Incidentally, go get that comp; its amazing. Anyway, the main Icescape mix is a cold, as the artist name suggests, foray into breezy, Arabic, coolness that surrounds the listener with its laid-back beats and echoed instrumentals. Its difficult to describe really but again, this would be good for meditation. Lovely stuff. [Another mix of this, by another artist, appeared on In The Blink Of An Eye: A Celebration Of Disco Gecko].

All good things come to an end and we have Albert's Bicycle Ride Mix of Hoffman Dub. This finishes the EP in fine style and is typically Disco Gecko; a unique and interesting soundscape. Bouncy synths, strange loops and other sounds combine to form a unique and interesting take on Hoffman. It harkens back to 100th Monkey's dub-ragga days and is rather spiffing. A good closer to the EP for me and possibly the most intriguing. Thumbs up
