It's about costs ceekay. They charge more because the cost per square foot of having an "express" / "local" is higher. This is why the prices are higher in corner shops too.

My corner shop is cheaper than both the tesco and sainsbury locals. And Tescos are just greedy fcuking cunts who don't actually NEED to put five locals on one high street, forcing small local businesses out of the area.

It may well stock cheaper goods, but I doubt the branded goods are cheaper (eg, cigarettes)
