Originally from Banco's "Igizeh" album, which celebrated its 20th anniversary, Obsidian is a Banco de Gaia staple. It was also featured on Rewritten Histories, the remix project bringing together remixes of former Banco classics such as Heliopolis, How Much Reality Can You Take? and Last Train To Lhasa amongst others. Now for 2022, Obsidian is remixed by Framewerk and Braxton.
Framewerk provide a remix, dub and reprise and Braxton contributes a remix of their own. The original mix is included as wel. For me, the Framewerk mixes are intriguing as they take the mystery of the original and lace it around an aural journey into a strange world of techno and breaks. Obsidian was the flagship track of Igizeh; its the track I most associate with the album. Its nice to see it, and hear it, treated with the respect it deserves.
Braxton goes for a more fragmented version; making it a bit more mysterious in tone. My pick, though, is the Framewerk Full On Mix. One worth seeking out and purchasing.
