He was 32. Irons passed away during a layover en route to Kauai, Hawaii, after withdrawing from a competition in Puerto Rico, the Association of Surfing Professionals said yesterday. He was said to have been battling dengue fever, the association added. Irons, who began his professional career in 1998, won three straight world titles from 2002 to 2004 and is the only surfer to win at every location on the elite tour, where he collected 20 victories. He last competed in September in Tahiti. PS: Are you back NZ now? yep, although age has not stopped Kelly Slater at all. Back in NZ, going pretty well overall and enjoying being back. Work is a bit slow and they are not quite up to speed with what I do compared to that in the UK. But hey, life is pretty easy going here so cant complain. As long as I dont see photos of festivals and all the good things that the UK has to offer I dont think I will miss it that much (for now). Certainly if you read the bbc etc it seems pretty gloomy. Don't they all look the same? Unless he died doing what he loved. RIP. Now I feel awful. In my years at Millwall I've seen good support. From early days to Wembley, 'wall have never let me down. But in the back of my mind I want them to be as passionate as Leeds fans. When we go up there we all look forward to seeing proper support, and start getting excited when we see the signs for Leeds. Let me reassure you that it has been gloomy, although we have an oddity at the mo and are maxing out at a massive 16-17C. I bet you are really envious... Savour your free time.
