Ahoy there my Electronic Sessions maties, it's Andy Moor

Reported by Roscosulli / Submitted 17-06-07 10:56

Any serious trance head will know Andy Moor. He’s been personally responsible for stormers and amazing remixes appearing on such luminary labels as Anjunabeats, Baroque and Lost Language to name but a few. As AVA Recordings boss he’s also now well placed to put his choice trance sound forward alongside some hand picked producers and if this Stoke boy doesn’t continue to increase his fan base because of it, we’ll certainly be scratching our heads!

Of course there will always be a few who will be left wondering what all the fuss is about and who indeed we are talking up. So feel free to drag yourself from your cave in the wilds and find out why his tracks have been championed by DJs like Tiesto and Paul Van Dyk and once your better informed grab yourself a ticket and make your way down to Temple Pier on the 23rd June to experience the 3rd Electronic Sessions boat party and Andy Moor himself!

ES: Hows thing's with you, having a good 2007?

Yes thanks, it’s been very good and busy so far.

ES: Was DJing / producing something that you always wanted to do from an early age or did you have something else in mind?

I was a kid who wanted to do everything. I had my fingers in loads of pies and luckily DJing and producing was one of those pies.

ES: Which of your productions have had the greatest response when
you've played out and where was it?

Most of my productions go through a transition period. They get a better response a few months after I have made them when people get to know the track a bit better. At first people are ask what it is, but as time goes by people get to know it and anticipate elements of the track which gives a bigger response. None of them really stand out from the others really.

ES: Do you prefer to play massive events and festivals or smaller more intimate venues?

It varies. Sometimes after a run of big gigs/events I look forward to more intimate settings and vice versa. You have to play differently for each type of gig so I look forward to getting into new tunes and playing a variety of sets.

ES: Tell us about the new material have you been working on so that we can look forward to it?

I have just finished a collaboration with Markus Schulz which people will start to here soon, along a new Tilt tune and a new solo tune (as soon as I get a spare second to turn the studio on). Time has not been on my side lately.

ES: What would you say best describes the type of sound you’re playing at the moment?

I don’t really like describing a sound as it normally means different things to different people, but it has elements of progressive house to trance. Sometimes can be a bit techie but it always has a groove and always has melody.

ES: Where is your favourite place to play in the UK? What do you think in general with the scene here and in London for that matter?

I like to play at The Gallery at Turnmills. 98% of my gigs are abroad so I am yet to play at a lot of venues in the UK but the scene here is battling against a lot of forces and has such a diverse crowd that like so many different things. There’s also been such an increase in bar culture and people don’t really pay attention to their music so much, which doesn’t really help events to succeed. I think it is definitely getting better from a slump a few years back so hopefully it can continue its push forwards.

ES: With many of your gigs abroad, what is your favourite foreign country to play and where are you yet to play that is an absolute must?

I’m aware that I’m avoiding a lot of questions here but I really don't have a favourite as every country is so different and has so many good points. Eastern European countries are great, but so is south Asia, and also North and South America for so many different reasons. Even the Middle East is amazing to play, but I’ve never been to South Africa and I’ve heard good things about the scene there.

ES: Do you get to go out clubbing much and what DJs do you really admire?

DJing for me is clubbing so you could say I go out clubbing every weekend. As I don’t really get chance to see other DJs I prefer to admire the producers that give me the ammunition to play out.

ES: Your record label AVA Recordings is going from strength to strength, can you tell us a little more about it, as well as some of the other artists involved with it?

We started last year and have our all format label AVA, and also a digital only label called AVA Digital. Basically we concentrate on releasing quality melodic music but don’t release on a set schedule, only when we feel we have tracks suitable to keep up the standards of our previous releases so far. We have some great artists such as the DJs playing on the boat (Orkidea, David West etc) and some nice releases in the pipeline.

ES: What football team do you support?

Stoke City of course.

ES: Restaurant or take away?

You mean: restaurant or wash your own dishes? I think Restaurant.

ES: Finally, what can we expect from your set on the boat?

I'll be looking at showcasing top quality Electronic Music for one of the most innovative and up and coming nights in the country! Bring it on!!

More: After the fantastic party last month at Corsica Studios its time for a bit of ES Boat party action again!

The 2 boat parties last year we hosted were arguably two of the best parties of the year, with the likes of Futureshock, Menno De Jong and Greg Downey rocking the Thames, amongst others. In fact many people said the summer party was their faviourite of 2006!

We intend to rock the Thames more than ever this time and have put a line up together that really can't be rivalled anywhere on the Thames in London this year.

COMPETITION!!!

To get the chance to play on this special line up and party we are looking for a quality demo consisting of some quality driving dirty and fairly uplifting house and electro. Please only send if you genuinely believe it is of a worthy standard, and obviously exclusive demos for the competition will stand a much better chance of winning ! GOOD LUCK !
