OH MY GOD!
What a night!
After all the build up and hype surrounding this night, with the Q club closing and being sold off(boooo ), it did not let us down!
We got in just after 10.30 and already the place was heaving and there was a terrific buzz in the air. We made our way straight to the main room and had to fight our way to the bar at the back. I have never seen so many faces, so many excited and happy faces! The place was an explosion of old style ravers and young clubbers alike all here for the same thing, their love of Techno and The Jam!
After managing to buy a drink(A extortionate £5 a pint for someone who lives in the west, £3.30 for a bottle of water!) we made our way to find a place in the main room. Ed Mackie was just finishing and Chris Finke was stepping up.. as usual his brilliant attitude to techno shone through. That was it, the floor was literally bouncing, it was wall to wall faces, and for those that know and love this club, it was floor to ceiling faces too lol. Everyone was having it hard!
After Chris was Marcel Fengler, not someone I had personally seen but fuck me, he was good. By now I was in my usual place at the front and of course the Q sound system was spectacular as usual. This guy managed to keep me flying throughout his whole set. A brilliant job!
After Marcel came the guy I was waiting for..Speedy J! Oh my god, he tickled and teased and delivered a wicked set of techno. A few did not like the way he performed but for me, it was perfect. All around me were faces that were grinning from ear to ear and full of old skool love lol, this is the only club I have ever experienced this in and it is such a shame it is closing but what a style to go out in.
The final act that I managed to watch was of course, the great Dave Clarke. I am always amazed by this guy, he is forever moving forward in Techno, never standing still, always bringing something new to the music and he did not let us down. Brilliant. Nuff said.
By the end of his set i was a quivering wreck in the corner somewhere and had to be escorted home But oh the memories of that night will stay for a very long time.
Well fucking done Atomic Jam
Farewell Q club.
