Desert Dwellers

» Breath, Re-Imagined Vol.1

Label: Desert Trax
Format: Digital
Genre: Electronic

Something a bit more leftfield from US duo Desert Dwellers. These guys have been around since the 1990s as the Dwellers and they've built a niche of providing remixes, original productions and yoga meditative music for quite some time now.

Breath is their latest and its the remix edition we're focusing on. The deal is simple: three remix albums covering different styles and from different artists; be it progressive, dub, trance, techno or just general electronica. This is Re-Imagined Vol.1 and features remixes from Pitch Black, Bluetech, Nanosphere and more across its 14 tracks.

As far as remix albums go, this is hugely expansive. With Vol.2 just released and a third volume on the way, its fascinating to hear so many genres on the first two editions. My particular faves include Pitch Black's bass rendition of Praise Her, The Fire Keeper and Bluetech's re-rub of Breathing The Mysteries. Vol.1 is more downtempo; which makes for a relaxing listen. Its certainly relaxing and is more akin to the Dwellers' own remixes on the Night Vision compilations. You can easily drift away on this album. Gumi's mid-tempo remake of Closed Eyes In A Dust Storm is alluring. Almost like getting hit by a sonic dust storm!

Breath Re-Imagined Vol.1 is a really good companion album to the original opus. 14 fresh takes on Breath's initial burst of light; another angle if you like. With a third volume dropping on our asses soon, the final volume, we'll be taking breaths with the Dwellers again this year! Cool stuff! Thumbs up
