FX Format, priced at £2k between the D300 and the D3. Could be the one!

D300 wouldn't be a good upgrade fromthe D200, but D700 would be.
Mind you 4 out of my lenses are DX so would need to be replaced too!
Expensive business.

It was funny - notice about the D700 + SB-900 was leaked a few days ago and the whole photography press was awash with "spy" pictures of the catalogue.

Looks like a great camera - a mini D3.

But one aspect I've seen is dissapointing - the 95or96% coverage of the viewfinder.
Started to do a bit of architecture shooting for stock and then it's impotrant to know where the edges of the frame is, but without 100% you have to guess a bit or shot a few + check. If not using tripod then re-composing again gives the same issue.

I noticed the 95or96% coverage too. I guess it gives them something to improve upon.

Nikon seems to have better DX lens coverage than FX now. They don't have anything like the 16-85 VR or the 18-200 VR in full frame. For me I'd want something like a 24-135 with VR. I have the 24-120 and it kind of sucks. I'd also need to replace my 12-24. It might be worth waiting until they release more lenses with VR. In the mean time I'm waiting for the D90, which I'd expected to be released yesterday.... where is it! Confused

Lenses I have:

Full frame
Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 (but old version and no VR - fancy replacing)
Nikon 60mm Macro (not used much, bought for macro + portait)

DX
Nikon 18-70mm (kit, never use now - backup)
Nikon 10.5mm Fisheye (not used much)
Tokina 12-24mm f4
Nikon 17-55mm f2.8

If I were to upgrade to full frame I think I'f get rid of the 17-55mm and 12-24mm in favour of the 24-70mm and 14-24mm FX.
Get rid of the old 18-70mm + D70 backup.
Keep the Fisheye and just use it with cropping.
So changing lenses would still cost me thousands.

Fancy the Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR, but seen that it's corner sharpness isn't great on the D3.
Also bought the 60mm as I fancied a macro lens, but also a sharp f2.8 lens for portaits, but I now use the 17-55 for that. So wouldn't mind swapping it for the 105mm VR.

I've got an 80-400 VR which would work fine i guess. My DX 18-70 zoom lens is f*cked anyway...

Maybe try to get a 28-70 zoom...
