InnerZone

» Mind Altering Devices

Reviewed by Pete M / Submitted 06-09-21 17:36

Label: Dragonfly Records
Format: Digital
Genre: Psytrance

The rebirth of Dragonfly, which began with the Order Odonata : Metamorphosis compilation in 2019, continues with InnerZone's debut album, Mind Altering Devices. The album bridges the gap between full-on psytrance and Goa trance. Its eight tracks will invoke the spirit of Shamanic dancing within you.

This is solidly produced trance music. I became aware of InnerZone due to the 303 mix of Unlimited Happiness on the aforementioned Order Odonata and this album has essences of that track with acidic bass-lines and storming beats. This is Dragonfly at its darkest and most alluring; lulling you in and not letting go or looking back for 73 minutes.

The object on the album's cover is what I imagine the mind altering device in question to be. Its eight tentacles firing off the album's tracks one by one. It dances along with you as it moves into the abyss. The levels of this album are superb; its quite relentless actually and is what the main Dragonfly label is renowned for. Plenty of uplift and groove to it. Again, this is top-notch stuff from a label that has only just resurfaced from hibernation. Its almost as if it never went away!

On the whole, the album is a real trip into the dark. The Dragonfly accompanies you every step of the way and keeps you safe under its mighty wings. The album is somewhat seamless so you only have to close your eyes and let it wash over you. Top notch stuff from the mysterious collective known as Dragonfly!
