Top 10 for July 2008
01 Viktor Valsko - BassFeeder [Tempered DJs Mix] (Clean Recordings) PREVIEW / BUY
A seriously dark and gritty slice of subwoofer sustinance which just keeps evolving throughout the track, complete with glitchy vocals and some wicked chords - Wow! 10/10.
02 Database - 1985 [Original Mix] (Transmit Music) PREVIEW / BUY
Very funky party beats with cut-up vocals, crunchy percussion and all manner of weird noises - a proven winner for the intimate dancefloors!
03 Acute - Autodirt (CD-R)
The latest creation by Acute and the best thing he's done in recent months. Dirty basslines meet uplifting synths with a really nice rolling feel throughout.
04 Wehbba - Emonimal (Jesus Loved You) PREVIEW / BUY
Is the name short for "emo minimal"? That's how I've thought of a lot of the Deadmau5-influenced stuff myself, but this beats the rest of it to the ground with it's sheer beauty... one for the late hours.
05 Turtleheadzz - Chub Scrubber [Turtle Dub] (Club Rhythm Entertainment) PREVIEW / BUY
A fun and bouncy groove with a bit of a kick to it from this States-side duo, plus some awesome noises thrown in for good measure!
06 Sandro Searcher vs Paulinho PT - Fine Pepper [Original Mix] (Sub Culture Records)
This is my pick from the new 4-track EP from Sub Cult - tough and driving with a larger-than-life bassline and a sprinkling of breakbeats.
07 Indecent Noise - Generator [JK Walker Remix] (Diverted Recordings) PREVIEW / BUY
As driving and uplifting as JK Walker's past exploits, but the deep sweeping pad and gentle bleepy melody in the breakdown of this one really makes it for me.
08 Santogold - L.E.S. Artistes [Switch Remix] (Atlantic Records)
Quite a laid-back affair with a very cool funky groove and tasteful snippets of the vocal scattered throughout - good to see a major picking up on the remix talents of Mr Taylor!
09 Santiago Nino - Spark [Original Mix] (Relic Recordings) PREVIEW / BUY
Dark bleepy, bassy chaos with this one - I've been hammering it for the last couple of months and can't quite bear to let it slip out of my chart!
10 Shameboy - Heartcore [Original Mix] (541 Records) PREVIEW / BUY
Another one I've been deeply in love with for a while which is still just hanging in there - tearing bitcrushed noises with awesome chords, a track which just builds and builds... incredible!
