Review of Riga, Latvia Trip (4th-6th Aug) Smile

Day1 :Friday 4th Aug
Useful info : 1 GBP = 1 Lats (Latvian dosh), weather similar to London at around 21-25 degrees. Stanstead airport £25 return, £15 1 way from Liverpool St stn.
Met kirk & jos from HIA and Trifunk. Baggage was ok to take on plane but £5 check in if weight > 10 kgs. Flew out 3pm, arrived 7.30pm. Flight time approx 2.5 hrs.
2 people kicked off plane being drunk/disorderly with loud stag dos on plane
Met promoters at airport, drove to hotel & checked in, 1 hr to get ready
met at local bar close to hotel, had a few drinks at bar

Made our way to club C1133 - Nice club with 2 levels and outdoor area, swish bar at ground level and basement club downstairs with projectors, lasers and bar holding around 2-300 people.
Jos warmed up @ club around 10-ish pm with no slip matts

Had more drinks and champagne, took photos, put banners up.
Had quick bite @ double coffee café – yummy pancakes & desert
Back at club around midnight with more champagne, vodka bottle, red bull & whisky!
Set up was ok with 2 technics 1210s, 2 CDJs 200s (not 1000s), basic 3 channel A&H mixer which had the CD/decks switched between each other on 2 channels.

Kirk came on around 12-ish as DJ Crash was late. I got on the decks around 2-ish after Crash and crowd was very up 4 it & club was rammed!

Day 2 : Sat 5th Aug

Got on board boat party from 6am after leaving club as the after party Ibiza stylee! Loads of up 4 it clubbers joined us for the ride.
No needles on decks so CDJs only (200 not 1000s) but managed a 3 way b2b for a little while with Kirk & Jos but ended doing a b2b with Kirk till we reached an island/land. Waited for other DJs, more clubbers to get on and they took over on the way back to Riga old town.

Fantastic vibe all morning & met loads of friendly Latvians!
Got back to main land around mid-day, rested for the afternoon while others carried on drinking & enjoying the sunshine.
Had some nice dinner (best steaks at Dome!) & found out gig on Sat night @ Ventspils got cancelled from promoters so we had more drinks at resident bar and went to Club Nautilus around 11-ish pm - nice club with main room (holding around 4-500) playing electro/funky house, smaller VIP room with chilled tunes & stripper on pole, bottom room playing R&B/hip hop which seemed to be going off!

Left club around 1/2am and back to C1133 for the Roof Off party where Dusted DJs & ex houseworx DJs played. It was quiet compared to the night before but still an ok vibe. Left around 4.30am to get some kip to feel fully refreshed the next day as we had to check out of our hotel while other carried on till the morning at Club Essential and more bars!

Day 3 : Sun 6th Aug
Got up, checked out around midday & had some lunch at the square in town (nice duck & ommelete), wondered around the old town, parks with fountains , monuments, cathedral, castle & made it to the tallest hotel (Reval) which was brand spanking new for a few drinks at the Skyline bar on the 26th floor for breathtaking 360 degrees view of the town. Well worth the trip up for the views!

Ventured back to old town to meet the promoters for some dinner at Lido which is a massive amusement park with all sorts of food to pick from buffet style – really good food indeed!

After dinner, we drove to a nearby beach with white sand to chill out & chat, drink beers, ice cream, photos & some sea breeze – nice! Drove to the airport, checked in & had a few more drinks/cocktails before departing.

All in all, it was a fabulous experience and had the best hospitality from the promoters – highly recommended to anyone visiting or playing out there! Definitely looking forward to heading back later this year for sure!
