Anyone know how they stack up against pioneer/denon gear? There aren't many reviews out there but people seem to think that the RMP3s are equivalent (maybe a bit worse) than CDJ1000s. I'll be playing bass music, garage, dubstep, techno along the lines of Joy-O, Ramadanman, Appleblim etc, maybe use them as midi controllers with Live also. But, I've just checked the reviews out and they look a lot better (superficially speaking) than the products they were putting out a few years back. I'm not a huge fan of Pioneer stuff, sure, it's good enough and generally lasts well but IMO there's a certain amount of price premium that is there purely because their products have been considered 'industry standard' i.e. any club that takes itself seriously is 80% more likely to be kitted out with at least a pair of Pioneer players, if not the main mixer as well. Although I have played in some venues that also had a pair of Denons also available, it's fairly unusual to find anything else in places that are about music first and foremost (seen some horrendous setups in wine bars and suchlike) Personally I like some of the Denon stuff. I've been using the same MK1 mc6000 mixer/controller now which I also use as my main ASIO audio interface for most tasks for over ten years now without feeling the need to replace it, and it's rock solid. No complaints whatsoever. But I've never enjoyed their deck-style media players with gimmicks like motorised platters. But, I've no experience with the latest stuff. I think the decision you need to make, other than build quality, is, are you going to be DJing a lot with MP3 rather than burned discs, do you think you'll be playing out a lot and using Pioneers anyway, so it makes sense to know them inside and out, is it convenient for your needs to use the Rekordbox environment to prepare your tracks for playing venues that have the Pioneer equipment? Then it might be worth paying the extra for the industry standard. But otherwise, I guess the best thing to do is 'try before you buy' if at all possible. Some things look great on paper but they feel wrong, or the firmware is rubbish but never gets updated etc etc. My Denon's been great, ten hassle free years. If they still make them like they used to then I'd recommend. I decided fairly early on that although I'm coming from a vinyl mixing background I've never been that keen on the whole platter thing with digital players. Hence why the Denon MC6000 appealed to me as it has platters if needed but they're not dominating the entire interface, meanwhile I have a proper 4-channel DJ mixer (6 if you count 2 mic/instrument channels), two sets of transport, FX and hotcue controls plus integrated audio interface in the footprint of maybe one and a half of those players.
