October Trance Chart

(artist/title/mix/label)

(1.) Thomas Bronzwaer: ‘Resound’ (Sean Tyas remix) – Yakuza
Not content with ruling my charts for the last 18 months, Sean Tyas absolutely dominates this month’s chart with three quality releases. Pick of the bunch is this awesome remix of feelgood Thomas Bronzwaer trancer ‘Resound’, which is up there for Track Of The Year honours as things stand.

(2.) Simon Patterson: ‘Bulldozer’ (original mix) – 2 Play
Rarely have I seen such devastation on dancefloors as when this one gets played. Awesome, driving, relentless tech-trance with the mother of all basslines after the break, which makes it sound as if the club is being shelled. Impact trance in every sense of the word.

(3.) Cartel: ‘Moments’ (original mix) – Cartel White Label
Discover labelmates John Askew and John O’Callaghan combine forces to produce this incredible, fast-paced, high-octane uplifting trancer with a superb arpeggiated main riff. Well worth checking out if you like your trance powerful and energetic.

(4.) Sean Tyas: ‘Drop’ (original mix) – Discover
Tyas again, this time with the follow-up to last year’s smash ‘Lift’. As good as its predecessor was, ‘Drop’ goes one better with a bit more energy, a more hooky lead line and those like-them-or-hate-them Sean Tyas production standards. Sean’s obviously been busy….

(5.) Above & Beyond pres. Tranquility Base: ‘Oceanic’ (Sean Tyas remix) – Anjunabeats
…. especially as he’s found time to cram in the standout mix of Above & Beyond’s latest incarnation. A lovely feelgood melody – somehow reminiscent of Jean Michel Jarre – ensures the whole dancefloor will be smiling to this one. Fantastic stuff.

(6.) Jason Cortez: ‘No Other Way’ (original mix) – Tranzaction
NuklearPuppy resident Jason Cortez turns in this high-octane hard trancer with a real Nick Sentience feel about it. This is the type of stuff I love to play during those end-of-night sets where momentum and energy are all-important, both elements this great track has in abundance.

(7.) Pierre Pienaar: ‘Tsunami’ (Ian Betts remix) – Nukleuz
Nukleuz seem to be making a very welcome return to the more uplifting side of trance with last month’s Trance Sessions Solstice EP and if it’s quality trance you’re after, there no better producer to recruit than Ian Betts. Here he turns in a trademark euphoric remix of Namibian producer Pierre Pienaar’s latest effort.

(8.) Talla 2XLC: ‘No In Between’ (John O’Callaghan remix) – Breathe
Nice vocal trance courtesy of John O’Callaghan’s remix of Breathe’s latest release. Keeping many of the themes from his heard-everywhere rework of ‘Anthem’, O’Callaghan injects a healthy dose of energy and drive into the original, coupled with his trademark high production standards.

(9.) John O’Callaghan pres. Mannix: ‘Pyramid’ (original mix) – A State Of Trance
Donning his Mannix guise, J O’C also finds time to launch a new EP on ASOT, of which ‘Pyramid’ is the highlight track for me. Sitting somewhere between uplifting and tech, a hypnotic metallic lead dominates here, coupled with a rolling bassline for a real driving feel. Great stuff.

(10.) Ronski Speed vs Stoneface & Terminal: ‘Soulseeker’ (Stoneface & Terminal dub) – Euphonic
I’m a little late picking up on this one but get rid of the vocal and this S&T dub mix of Ronski Speed’s electro-tinged trance pushes all the right buttons. Knowing what’s coming up on Euphonic in the near future, this promises to be a great few months for the label.
