For those who love music: the Proactive story
Written by Proactive on 18-09-06 14:28 (6826 views) (20 comments)
Sitting down to write the official history of Party Proactive is both an exciting and daunting prospect. Exciting because it’s going to be the first time even we’ve seen all we’ve achieved written down in black and white and daunting because if this is going to be the official history I’d better make sure I don’t leave anything out! And there’s a lot to remember . . . [Full Story]

The Olly Perris brain-picking sessions ’06: Innovate preview
Written by Jamie McCarogher on 13-09-06 19:55 (7746 views) (23 comments)
Olly Perris is a 22 year old dj/producer from Southampton, UK. He started mixing at the tender age of 15 and had his first release at the age of 17, which went on to sell over 3000 records within its first week on the shelves. Since then this man has been going from strength to strength. Aside from running the Addiction Digital label, Olly can still be found playing out somewhere most weekends. Ahead of Olly’s set at Innovate at the Fridge this weekend, I had the opportunity to get together with this real life legend and pick his brain . . . [Full Story]

The house of Turnmills
Written by e99 on 13-09-06 19:31 (9027 views) (9 comments)
Turnmills has always been a London clubbing institution — the original Farringdon superclub which has always kept itself on the cutting edge of dance music. It gained its world-wide reputation on the strength of two legendary nights which helped to shape the sound of hard music. Trade, one of London’s earliest legal afterparties, is generally cited as the birthplace of hard house, and The Gallery has always been a champion of various styles of tougher music, and of course a world leader for trance. However, house music events have played an increasingly important part in the club’s success since the mid ‘90s, and still form an integral part of its eclectic schedule. [Full Story]

Brixton through and through — Danny Tappenden gets the HF treatment
Written by benz on 12-09-06 02:08 (8501 views) (38 comments)
Brixton has for many years been one of the hubs of London’s dance music underground. Far from the tacky West End and East London’s trendy bars and clubs, it’s a place where all the more underground forms of dance music have always been able to flourish. Its liminal location on the edge of London’s innermost regions mimicking the location of the music played there on the periphery of mainstream culture, it has often served as a centre for various forms of counter-culture. Fundamentally Chris Cee
Written by Adam Symbiosis on 12-09-06 01:27 (4162 views) (18 comments)
DJ or photographer, producer or promoter. There are many sides to Chris Cee. Known just as much for his Norqs as for getting asked if he’s got any RnB, I brought him round and chowed down while he brought the fundamentals into focus for me. [Full Story]

Nicky Blackmarket on his BM-Soho record shop, Moondance and Bagpuss
Written by benz on 07-09-06 02:27 (8952 views) (14 comments)
BM-Soho, formerly Blackmarket Records, is one of the most famous record shops in the world. It’s been going for the best part of two decades now, located on D’Arblay Street — right in the heart of record-shoppers paradise Soho in Central London. It’s probably the leading drum ‘n’ bass store in the country, but it also does a world-class line in all shades of house, techno, electro, and underground urban music from the UK (dubstep, breakstep, garage and so on). Split over two levels and filled with uber-knowledgable staff, it’s a must visit for any dj with even a vague interest in any of the aforementioned styles. Nicky Blackmarket has been a part-owner and resident vinyl junkie in the shop for most of its life, and has also achieved world-wide fame as one of the foremost drum ‘n’ bass and jungle selectors in the game. HarderFaster puts K8-e on the other side of the notepad ahead of Thirsty Thursdays
Written by HarderFaster on 05-09-06 22:51 (6060 views) (23 comments)
This is probably one of the hardest interviews I’ve ever had to write. Not only is Kathryn Fairbrother aka K8-e one of the rising group of djs who can play anything they put their hand to — hard house, hard trance, techno, tech house, hardcore, you name it — she’s started getting stuck into producing, had stints at promoting, and she’s also one of HarderFaster’s most respected and prolific writers. But what do you ask someone who’s used to asking all the questions? [Full Story]

The ultimate Addiction? Get your fix at the Fridge on September 30th
Written by mostwantedkat on 04-09-06 19:34 (2987 views) (19 comments)
Addiction is a serious thing, no laughing matter. One minute you’re living your life, the next you’re totally consumed by something so big that everything else pales in comparison. It can happen to even the most normal of us sitting here today, believe you me. One week you’re going to work, coming home, going to work, coming home, maybe going out for a pint or two on the weekend if you’re feeling a bit rebellious.

Then all of a sudden you’re raging it up in the middle of the week, partying till the wee small hours and descending into a kicking social life, increasing circles of friends and, worst of all, banging summer boat parties. It’s no wonder our young people are attracted to this life of hedonistic uplifting debauchery!

Interview with Chris Vaux from Portsmouth’s PunchFunk
Written by K8-e on 04-09-06 19:12 (4457 views) (5 comments)
I got to know Chris Vaux when I offered to review the night that PunchFunk (his promotion) brought Fergie to town. I’d never been to a PunchFunk before, but I was pleasantly surprised at the way this night mixed up house, electro and funky techno to create a wicked vibe. I don’t get much of a chance to club properly these days but I made the time when once again they played a blinder and brought Valentino Kanzyani to Portsmouth. Since the start of the year I’ve watched in amazement as Chris and his endless enthusiasm and dedication push himself and the PunchFunk brand further and further, bringing more and more quality acts to Portsmouth and Bournemouth and taking the PF brand on tour to places like Hi:Fi and Global. Hardly time to stop for a breath! But ahead of his debut release on PunchFunk records I thought it was about time I tracked the man down for some questions. [Full Story]
