Down to Earthcore with JOOF
Written by Jessica Alici on 27-10-16 09:12 (7451 views) (2 comments)
John ‘00’ Fleming is a name known to any self-respecting raver in the trance scene. He’s an institution! With the rise of illegal downloads & streaming services – it’s understandable that many underground dance artists have bailed. Not JOOF though. He’s still as dedicated & passionate to the scene as he ever was. He’s seen & done it all! In fact what J00F doesn’t know about the scene - isn’t worth knowing! Which is why I jumped at the chance of being able to interview him - ahead of one of his upcoming sets where he’s a firm favourite - Earthcore! [Full Story]

From Little Acorns to Mighty Oaks - How Chilled in a Field has grown
Written by Latex Zebra on 20-07-16 18:21 (8995 views) (2 comments)
The saying mighty oaks from little acorns grow applies to many things, from children to events, which is handy because this next interview is about both!

Chilled in a Field began as a small festival some 6 years ago and has now become an amazing, although still personal festival which is getting rave reviews from attendees and the media.

I managed to grab one of the promotion team to throw a few questions at them in the lead-up to this year's event.

The HarderFaster Guide to Noisily Festival of Music and Arts 2016
Written by Tara on 22-06-16 17:06 (8178 views)
It’s somewhat paradoxical that although there are now more music festivals than ever before, a really special festival is still hard to find. Last year’s Noisily Festival of Music & Arts therefore surpassed all expectations, for the line-up was so good that I could easily have spent the weekend at any one of the four stages, while its pristine location deep in the woodland meant that even the odd downpour didn't kill the party. And with the atmosphere around the perfectly condensed site consistently peaking, we sure did party!

With Noisily 2016 just around the corner on 7th-10th of July at Coney Woods near Leicester and the excitement building, we thought we’d have a look at what’s on the menu for the forthcoming weekend of music, art – and yes, of course, the odd bit of hedonism.

Lifeforms are Maor Tsemah and Charlie Holden, who, from different sides of the world, have created one of the most exciting new musical partnerships of the progressive psy trance world. Their evolution of the prog-psy sound that has been rising in popularity over the last decade pushes at the tougher end of the progressive spectrum with a full-on flair, igniting dancefloors with a bang!

As Astral Circus prepares to land once more at the Electrowerkz this Friday the 20th May with its well-earned reputation for the highest standards of musical and visual production, Andy Force caught up with one half of the project – Maor – to understand more about what drives this unique entity.

Spinning yarns with Grouch ahead of his visit to London
Written by Tara on 14-05-16 15:46 (7445 views)
There are very few producers who can make music for almost every time and place, but as a long-time fan I reckon Kiwi composer Grouch is one of those extraordinary few. From the lush chilled sounds of the likes of Soul Provider and his Kaya Project remix of One Hundred Lights to his breaksy, dubbier, and downright wonky glitchy sounds, to his more full-on techier, proggier, bassier and psychedelic tracks, Grouch’s back catalogue covers a uniquely vast spectrum of electronic music.

This Thursday night he’s being flown in from Melbourne for a special one-off two-hour set at Ott. & The All-Seeing I & Friends at Koko, where he’ll be showcasing the full spectrum of his sounds, including his new album Corpus Callosum, out next month on Zenon Records. We managed to lure him out of the studio to spin a few yarns before he jumped on the plane…

From Bristol to Boomtown, Monk3ylogic bring their psy-breaks back to the Circus
Written by Tara on 11-05-16 20:11 (7011 views) (1 comment)
Bristol-based psy-breaks duo Monk3ylogic were initially inspired to start writing music at their first parties in the heady days of the exploding rave scene in the early ’90s, but it wasn’t until technology caught up with their plans in the form of powerful PCs that they could finally start putting their unique stamp on their own sounds. They’ve since played all of the top UK festivals from Glastonbury to Glade and Boomtown – where they’ll be returning this summer – and released some killer tracks.

Currently taking a break from production while they kit out their studio so they can complete some older tracks and start some new ones, it appears the best is still yet to come on the production front. In the meantime, with the boys headlining the alternative room at the Astral Circus presents The Psy-Fi London Launch Party on Friday 20th May at Electrowerks, we threw the psychedelic simians a few bananas to get them talking…
