On Friday December 22nd, London’s original superclub Heaven will be rocked to its very foundations with some of the fiercest hard dance and trance the capital has ever been witness to, at the Heavenly Xmas Ball. Two titans of the clubbing scene, Polysexual South and Twisted go head to head in what will surely be a legendary battle of the arenas. Rob Tissera, BK, Lisa Pin-Up, Phil Reynolds, Kevin Energy, Trevor McLachlan, Ed Real, Mike Koglin, Marc French... oh and a certain Miss Cally Gage. [Full Story]

DnB don High Contrast on the blower for Moondance NYE
Written by benz on 20-12-06 17:18 (3962 views) (3 comments)
Pendulum, Roni Size, Goldie, London Elektricity, Adam F... only a handful of drum 'n' bass artists have managed to achieve serious commercial success outside of the DnB world. The achievement is not so much the number of sales or money made from their classic albums - but rather the fact that all these artists are loved by people who don't particularly have much interest in DnB music. The awesome High Contrast, aka Welsh production wizz Lincoln J. Barrett, can count himself amongst this elite group, following the massive success and critical acclaim of his two albums 'True Colours' and 'High Society' and his hugely popular remixes of Kanye West's 'Golddigger' and The White Stripes' 'Blue Orchid'. Going back to the Roots of psy trance with Metaphase and Zeus
Written by Tara on 15-12-06 14:57 (6431 views) (8 comments)
With psychedelic trance having undergone something of a revival lately, a lot of clubs and promotions are jumping on the bandwagon. Fortunately for those with more than a passing interest in good music, there are some dedicated djs, producers and promotions doing their best to keep things real. Two of these talented individuals are Roots promoters and PointZero Records managers Fabry Motta aka Metaphase and Peter Welgemoed aka Zeus. After a year of awesome Roots parties where they’ve been responsible for introducing the likes of Israel’s Solar System to the UK and the launch of PointZero’s ‘Radioactivity Part 2’ compilation, these two are well deserving of their HF debut. Knowwhere @ Heaven ... reviewed
Written by josie on 15-12-06 00:06 (6016 views) (24 comments)
Clubland has been a bit reclusive of late — trance has been dominated as usual by The Gallery, and in particular Vaccine, but other big names have kept their heads below the parapet… notwithstanding the Wildchild débâcle. The promised Trancegeneration reunion was sadly not to be, but ElectronicSessions and others have been bubbling along under the surface, and fledgling event Ascendance is taking its first steps in Kingston. I’ve been even more cloistered… and God it feels good to go out! It’s been a while, and there was a manic gleam in the eye, therefore, when we rolled up at Knowwhere’s December shindig chez Heaven. The world is your oyster, don’t go dancing
Written by Adam Symbiosis on 13-12-06 23:16 (4435 views) (13 comments)
“The world is your oyster” and “One day this will all be yours,” two things most of us heard from our parents. Now cast your minds back to those heady days of youth, what were you doing? Doing homework, tick. Chasing someone for a kiss, tick. Playing footie in the street, tick. These days kids are more likely to be checking out new tracks on MySpace, texting their mates, before heading off to the nearest available venue to have it to nu-rave. [Full Story]

2006 round-up with the Frantic 0101 main room DJs
Written by benz on 13-12-06 22:49 (5887 views) (4 comments)
Woot, it’s almost Christmas! Which also means it’s almost New Year’s! Which basically means we’ve got three weeks of shit-hot parties, drinking, gorging on food and general merriment to look forward to. 2006 has been a very exciting year for dance music however you look at it — the worldwide takeover of electro and minimal, the problems with the police in various London clubs, the digital download revolution fully getting into its swing, the warehouse revival, more festivals taking place than ever before and another great season in Ibiza were amongst the headlines. As the year draws to a close, we rounded up the main room DJs playing at Frantic 0101 at Hidden on New Year’s Day to give us their brief highlights of 2006. Full highlights coming in their forthcoming biographies... [Full Story]

Trevor Rockcliffe — Proactive — HeatUK & The Gallery NYE — 'nuff said?
Written by e99 on 13-12-06 22:19 (6618 views) (14 comments)
From travel agent to technoist, Trevor Rockcliffe’s story stretches way back into the origins of the British techno scene. Not long after he started playing at his hobby of DJing, his new found love of techno saw him bag a residency at Troll at The Soundshaft. Later residencies for legendary clubs like Trade and Ultimate Base saw his reputation grow far and wide, and particularly with Trade, forge himself a name with lovers of hard house. It’s this connection in part which sees him playing in Proactive’s Foyer at HeatUK & The Gallery’s massive NYE party at Brixton Academy, with a whole host of other techno, hard dance, house, electro, breaks and psy trance DJs. Interview with Chris Hampshire
Written by AshAttack on 13-12-06 22:02 (6599 views) (7 comments)
Chris Hampshire has certainly been around the block many times, gracing many dance floors with stomping tune after stomping tune. ‘Breathless’ as re-mixed by Tony de Vit injected Hampshire & Weatherly to the front of the line and certainly beyond. A few years later Chris Hampshire’s purchase of Recover Records and Recoverworld have certainly paid off, not forgetting the sub labels under the umbrella of all things Recoverworld. [Full Story]

Ephexis INside for Freeformation
Written by benz on 12-12-06 20:05 (4144 views) (2 comments)
There are still a lot of people who seem to think that all hardcore music is about cheesy pianos and naff vocals, dripping with saccharine musical motifs. I suppose they can’t necessarily be blamed given the mainstream representation of hardcore. It’s a shame that the more underground strains of hardcore don’t get quite the same exposure, as it would probably pleasantly surprise a lot of people. The Nu Energy Collective and their Freeformation parties have done sterling work to educate the masses on the breadth and diversity within the ‘ardcore spectrum, and have always been keen supporters of the less overtly-cheesy strains. Their next party this Friday 15th December at Hidden once again sees their bright new hopes Ephexis in tow with their much-acclaimed live PA. Psy-freeform anybody? [Full Story]

Hard Dance Awards preview with Andy Whitby
Written by mostwantedkat on 08-12-06 00:23 (5053 views) (7 comments)
I had a best friend called Whitby. She had a brother called Andy. Andy was a DJ. He played deep house and breaks (and was also really rather good I might add). One day whilst meandering through the concrete jungle that is our glorious second city of Birmingham, I happened to walk past a massive poster for Sundissential. There emblazoned across the whole thing in huge letters was the name Andy Whitby. F*ck me, I thought, that’s one hell of a change of musical direction. [Full Story]
