Kraak & Smaak

» Dynamite

Reviewed by voodoobass / Submitted 11-11-10 18:23

Label: Jalapeno
Format: Digital
Genre: Nu-Funk/Breaks/Electro

Really strong release here from the Dutch funksters. A bit more big-room and clubby than previous Kraak & Smaak material, 'Dynamite' combines rasping electro basslines with cut-up slap bass licks and oldskool stabs to turn in a filthy-sounding track that oozes dancefloor appeal. If the electro sounds are too much, K&S also deliver a more straight-up funk version more suited to the back rooms and DJ bars. On remix duties are Pink Elephant, whose rework sounds reasonably tame until the drop, whereupon it turns into Justice-esque wall-of-noise synths, and prog legend Sander Kleinenberg who delivers a simple-but-effective butt-wiggling groove flavoured with floaty synth stabs.

All the mixes are quality but I can't help wishing for a dub version with less of the vocal as in my opinion it's nothing special (but then I am generally not keen on vox in my dance tracks with few exceptions) but the production and overall vibe more than make up for it.
