AZULI LAUNCH ‘HEADLINERS’ PARTIES WITH SMOKIN’ JO AT THE LIGHTBOX
On Saturday 7th March, Azuli are ready to set the standards once again with the launch of their new concept club night ‘Azuli presents Headliners’. This series of parties aims to showcase the best names in electronic music; the innovators, the DJs who reinvent and reinvigorate, and the producers that are responsible for new sounds and new scenes. The parties will be highly intimate with the usual electric Azuli atmosphere, helped by one of London’s best underground venues, The Lightbox. Guaranteed to make an instant impression, Azuli presents Headliners hands over the reigns to very special guest and Ibiza legend, Smokin Jo.
Azuli are second to none when it comes to putting on unmissable club nights; it comes as standard for a record label that has been operating for twenty years, has over 250 releases to date and is behind a series of rocking parties across the globe.
The ‘Azuli presents Headliners’ club concept was developed from the highly successful, first album release in the compilation series of the same name, from the ultimate man of reinvention, D Ramirez. This went on to be highlighted in the dance press as one of the best mix albums of 2008.
Azuli thought long and hard about who to kick off proceedings, but who better to take over the headliner mantle than the first lady of house music Smokin Jo. A DJ who has always refused to stick to convention, she has journeyed from a deeper soulful house sound many moons ago, to her role today, as a purveyor of a deeper, electronic sound that was defined by her Nasty Dirty Sex Music parties in Ibiza, alongside then partner Tim Sheridan. The two Ibiza stalwarts created a night and sound that captured the imagination of an island and then the world. Smokin’ Jo hasn’t looked back since, now even venturing into the live arena with her ‘Transistor’ project. She’s a DJ that always connects with the crowd while never compromising on quality.
Joining Jo is a name that has been a regular feature on the London club scene; one of the most up and coming, forward thinking producers at work today, Spencer Parker. His productions have featured on labels such as Buzzin Fly and Rekids, among others, and have collected army of fans along the way.
The final star of the night is the venue. Not to be understated, The Lightbox is a venue everyone is talking about and with good reason. It has wall to wall LED lights (over 15,000 them!) that light up in unison to create waves of colours that have to be seen to be believed. It’s an impressive show that becomes unforgettable when you add in the body shaking sound system. The quality line up and intimate atmosphere of 400 people, alongside this spectacular sound and light show, will surely make this an event that no clubber will want to miss.
