Fevah - Review Reported by billy boy / Submitted 07-02-02 15:08 The last time I went to Mass for one of Fevah’s parties was for Fahrenhite’s 3rd Birthday at the end of October last year, which was one of my favourite events last year. So expectations were running high when we piled into Mass just after midnight on Friday night and I’m pleased to report that we were not disappointed ! From the first minute inside the club, the tunes were rampaging. The two rooms at Mass were dubbed the “Main Room” and the “Trance Room”. Judging by the first few beats we heard when we stuck out heads through the door in the Main Room, we guessed that “Main Room” was a loose translation for “Hard as F*ck Room”. To get into the swing of things, we decided that a dose of Raymondo in the Trance Room would do the trick! Sure enough, Raymondo had the crowd jumping. The room was nicely packed – plenty of revellers and atmosphere but still room to stake out a piece of dance floor and cut loose. Next up was Owen B. Now at Fahrenhite’s 3rd Birthday, his B2B set with Steve “Get a Rush” Blake was one of the finest I heard last year. They truly created scenes of carnage with their relentlessly uplifting, euphoric tune selection (see the review of that night here) On this occasion it was to be Owen B followed by Steve Blake, which to us seemed to be an acceptable alternative. Sure enough, he laid on an extremely impressive set, though to be fair, this set was more the kind we’d expect in the hard dance scene – not so many of the more main stream trance anthems. From his first tune to his last, it was high energy, uplifting hard trance music of the highest calibre and to be honest we kinda got stuck in the Trance Room for most of the night from that point onwards. To be fair, from what we heard from brief visits to the Main Room, Riki Shane (formerly known as Riksta) was also on top form. The music was hard as well as being bouncy and very danceable. It was just that Owen B’s trance selection was a bit hard to go past ! When Steve Blake came on at 2.30am the party was charging along under a full head of steam. Steve smoothly took over where Owen B left off – which is to say that he laid on one scorching trance number after another with barely a moments respite ! It became pretty clear that this was going to be one of those nights where a lot of time would be spent leaping around like an Energizer bunny on high grade amphetamines. But where very little time would be spent catching breath, chatting or taking advantage of the attractive young ladies we’d brought along with us. Amongst other anthems too numerous to list here, he dropped in a remix of his very own “Get a Rush”, along with K90’s “Colours 2001” which had the crowd going absolutely mental. This was really one of those nights where it was hard to know which room to run to. I’ve been really enjoying Ed Real’s sets lately and once again, from what I heard on my brief sorties across to the Main Room, he was laying down a top set of energetic, hard beats, that on any other night you would have been hard put to prise me away from. The visuals on the big screens were also brilliant and it was easy to lose myself in them whist pounding away on the balcony level. However, I guess on Friday, after a week at work, the most uplifting experience possible was what I was craving and that’s what the Trance Room was delivering up… Now, at 4am, Eamonn Fevah (aka Eamonn Kilgraif) stepped up to the wheels of steel, sporting his Fevah Global Dance Masters T-shirt. Eamonn of course is one of the brains behind establishing Fevah Productions from the outset and developing it into a brand that can put “Fevah Global Dance Masters” on a T-shirt without looking silly. Along with regular nights including, Fahrenhite @ The Soundshaft every Saturday night and There @ Heaven every Friday night, Fevah also hosts special events such as this one on a regular basis. In addition, the Fevah’s record label is rapidly emerging as a major new force in the hard house and hard trance scene. So it would appear that this bloke doesn’t need to be spinning tunes to earn a crust and that being the case it’s a credit to him that his passion for the music has him keen to play. The last set I can remember hearing him play was an overlapping B2B set with Riksta then Nick Sentience at the Fevah Ibiza Reunion Pool Party. That was a top afternoon and the music was great, however, I’d be lying if I said I could remember what tunes were played by who. I was therefore pretty keen to hear what he’d come up with as the last time I could remember him playing a solo set was probably at Provocation early last year… Unfortunately, it wasn’t all plain sailing for Eamonn at the start of his set. There was evidently some fairly major technical hitch with the mixer and it looked like he was going to work on it with a pair of pliers in between trying to cue up his second track. This situation was resolved after a couple of tunes but not before Eamonn had practised a bit of crash mixing, which seemed to consist of waiting until one track was about to finish before slamming the next one up to full volume – kinda reminded me of the DJ at my high school formal dance !! Once the technical hitch was overcome, what Eamonn served up was a truly thrashing set mixing up old classics and the very finest scorching new trance numbers. I can’t remember enjoying a set of his so much since the Impact 2 cruise to Hamburg back in late 2000, where he played what was for me the set of the entire trip. He didn’t seem quite as “happy” on Friday night as he was then but his tune selection was still top drawer and we went ballistic. The only complaint I could possibly make about it was that the volume he was trying to squeeze out of the sound system was a bit more than it seemed to be able to handle at times. Still, the enthusiasm that showed for serving it up “no holds barred” was impressive ! We tore ourselves out of the Trance Room with about an hour to go and surged down onto the dance floor in the Main Room to give Matt Clarke the chance to give us the coup de grâce in style, which he obligingly delivered ! It’s a bit of a blur now and I’m struggling to remember the specific tracks he played. However, this was a damn fine way to finish the night - hard, energetic, bouncy and uplifting – with Mr Clarke grinning away behind the decks as if he never wanted to stop. Sure enough, as for almost any time when Matt is closing, the dance floor stayed full until the final beat of the final track. Wicked !! We limped out of Mass after 6am feeling well and truly punished. Another top night Fevah – bring on the next one !! See you on the dance floor !!!
