» The Beat

It’s fair to say I’m a bit of a fan of this label and Rob Roar’s A&R approach to the business, so, as ever, with each new release there’s always a high level of anticipation as to what I shall be treated to. Produced by Rob Roar (one half of Max Linen) & Felix Baumgartner who currently remains as an alter ego of a well known producer, The Beat kicks off with a brilliantly fresh house stance.

Current spins from the key players include Peter Gelderblom, Roger Sanchez, Erick Morrillo, The Scumfrog, Allister Whitehead, Noir and a whole host more.

The track incorporates a live double bass which is designed to impact on the dance floor for an extra touch and unique experience which is brought out with a catchy female vocal resting upon punchy drums and percussion. It has a hypnotic edge with a loopy groove and burns a cool impression on your mind with the lyrics of “the drums keep pounding the rhythm to my brain” which really work alongside the live bass. The energetic arrangement ensures a solid reaction each and every time off the dance floor. Pushing the tempo and flow straight into the big room you have a track for the more discerning ears and feet for sure.

Further mixes are supplied by Turbofunk who add a slick deep funk laden body grooving mix layered with great use of the bass and a far more eclectic offering in style with some added effects and stabby sounds and nagging noises for full effect.

Air Bureau develop from the original further again with an uplifting chunky house take and keep the bass held for longer in parts with other elements brought in for a strong fluid build-up and winding breakdown that hits back in with a nice slamming refreshing edge.

Josh Nordlander opts to provide a bubbling chunky modern house version with some nice electronic touches and seems to create a different bass to build upon taking the track down a different path, which results in a nice mid set mix I felt.

With Bodyrox, Another Chance, Martijn Ten Velden and many more already in the Phonetic ranks, its shaping up for another storming year.
