Will Atkinson

» Showoff (Original/Nick Callaghan Rmx)

Reviewed by Greg Zizique / Submitted 01-10-08 10:22

Label: CGI Records
Format: Digital
Genre: Trance, Tech Trance

After the highly impressive release Cloud Surfing on CGI Records, 18 year old rapidly rising star Will Atkinson returns with another big room trancer featuring a killer remix from Nick Callaghan.

So far this year Will has notched up over a dozen Radio1 plays and Showoff is his eagerly awaited follow up. The Original mix follows a true trance path with a modern slant. Starting with a steady paced drum and punchy snappy edge that begins to flow and develop into the huge breakdown, a winding down then opens up into the riff and then with a kick and twisted nagging extra line running through just sits there waiting to slam back in. Will’s mix would probably suit more uplifting and euphoric djs.

Nick Callaghan supplies the remix, and for me has taken the track to a new height. With quite a dark and moody sinister edged backing, Nick has brought out a sheer massive big room excursion. Starting off as a restrained tech trance infused cut that rolls along nicely and teases you with some drops and catchy looping and effects that lead in to a momentous breakdown. A big expanded hit of energy suddenly erupts and oozes through the speaker twisting it right up until the massive surge of the riff lets rip and the release of energy drops for a growling stomper for the floor. Expect some big room action on this version due to the huge large effect it has.

Cracking release.
