Calvertron

» Miosis EP

Reviewed by Greg Zizique / Submitted 13-11-08 11:58

Label: Destination?
Format: Digital
Genre: Tech House, Techno

Fresh from providing quirky bass charging electro style house bangers, Calvertron opts to slide into the realms of Techno and Tech House for his latest EP on Destination?

Oh Ley rattles through the speaker with crashing glitchy drums and percussion that open up into some frequency filtered and distorted noises before pumping the drums and pressure up a notch with deep dark effects and pitched effects. Lots of little highs carry and keep the momentum of this one going well.

Opium rests with a bubbly tech offering, more laid back, stripped back in its affair and gentle and inserting and introducing new sounds into the pot. A late breakdown gives the track a much needed edge for the floor and stops rattling and gives you fresh sounding synthy bass.

DNA with Banga and Evans and Waterfall sounds like a computer game with c-64 esque notes taking the track along and catchy techy drums again but instead of getting boring has a more interesting breakdown with moody deep responses creates a more pensive feeling.

Invisible with Banga again seems to take a somewhat techy slant as the main route for the track but has a short vocal sample and quirky sound with extra noises and shaking feeling. This gains momentum and has a surge of energy half way through and keeps it suitably pumping.
