Mr Oizo

» Pourriture EP

Reviewed by Greg Zizique / Submitted 26-03-09 20:18

Label: Ed Banger/Because Music
Format: CD
Genre: Nu Cool

The second EP lifted from his Lamb’s Anger Album, French dance extraordinaire Mr Oizo calls himself and some Irish beat-sters to the fray for a remix session and some other unearthed talent for more funk laden eclectic retro guitar chopping beats.

Pourriture X kicks off with really heavy big funk and fat guitar bass and eerie female French vocal and large licks. Retro and punkin’ beats lay a steady groove. Erreur Jean (Arveene & Misk remix) has a more dance friendly orientation with rolling groove kicking off almost immediately and slamming drums collide on top of fierce sharp snappy bass use with a synthy sound throughout and clashes and hits for a solid rework.

Von Sen Lars has a screeching high riser and high defined sound that sits there and takes over like a virus with pitched up effects and almost is just a tool for djs and live freaks. Steroids (Mr Oizo remix) has a more funk lick and straightforward housey groove and cool pumping energetic sounds and long big groovy elements too, a well thought out dance floor version.

Lars Von Sen (x-mas version) has a trippy down beat and daft French looping feeling with that essential dirty roller and bopping nu cool sound. Lots of little sounds pad it out for a weird little outing. Con Tact has a speech and deep swirling panned effect that again is almost a pure dj tool and has some warping highs.
