Richard Dinsdale

» Rival Times EP - Remixes

Reviewed by Greg Zizique / Submitted 27-03-09 15:14

Label: Spin Out Records
Format: Digital
Genre: Tech, House, Minimal Techno

After showcasing the awesome three track Ep previously, Richard Dinsdale gets a hefty remix list treatment that uses sounds and genre moulding elements from Tech, House and Minimal Techno.

Future kicks off with a tech house and progressive journey from Mark Mendes. An uplifting and gentle progressive sounding synth line rests down on more subdued techy house beats with a great and carefully created soundscape. The beats work up the anti half way through before opening up yet again into deeper darker sparse territory that grows a minimal esque percussion style.

Caninesounds provide the second version of Future, and opt to keep things deep, but slightly more punishing with their energy and direction. Some firey broody bass gets ready to grab you for a big let night excursion. Clattery percussion and charging along with delays lined on top with wind and swishes it simply does a brilliant job for working the vibe and exerting some fresh moving groove.

Reuben Keeney finishes off the new interpretation for Future. Riding tech minimal moods and gentle basses work out a nerve lead track with little highs and lows for a mind set and trip. Highly effective whilst very restrained it’s a cool, calm and collective mix.

For Zulu Dancer, Digital Punks produce a Laid Back Remix to start with, and this one has a really low slung nodding dope groove base to it. Very slick and sounding sweet as through a big rig it’s a wicked little warmer.

Digital Punks also add a Voodoo Remix of Zulu Dancer which has a punchier up for it vibe and adds a developed deep swarm feeling with traditional sounds and leads overlaid with modern touches of effects and rises.

Schadenfreude completes the package with a remix of As The Record Spins. Weird as hell basses and spacey vocal sample use underlie the eerie and almost haunting vibe and atmospherics that drop into a riding moody tech house and techno groover. Sparse moving sounds then echo along and take you on a deep deep trip.
