WiLDCHiLD Boxing Night — interview with Reece Elliot

Reported by Mr Bop Bop / Submitted 20-12-05 23:57

Reece Elliot is a busy boy indeed! Not content with running one of the countries biggest promotions, he’s now heading up a DJ agency, working on his production career and travelling up and down the country for a hectic superclub smashing schedule. From his early days of running club nights in Essex, the boy certainly has come a long way. We caught up with him in the run up before WiLDCHiLD CHRiSTMAS CLASSiCS, to see how he’s coping with his manic life.

Hi Reece! First up, how’s life treating you ‘me old mucker’!?

… sunny Essex still as lovely as ever!?

Life is treating myself, the team at WiLDCHiLD and BBL DJs surprisingly well! Sunny Essex is as rocking as ever, its all about Upminster!!!

So, with the Christmas party of the century that is Wildchild Christmas Classics, just around the corner on Boxing night, you must be pretty busy at the moment. How’s the event shaping up?

Phenomenally busy, 19 hour days, interrupted sleep patterns, non-stop work BUT on the flip side of things, WiLDCHiLD Christmas Classics @ Canvas is shaping up to be 1 of our best events to date. All those that made it to the 3rd Birthday will appreciate our brand has come a really long way in a short space of time and we believe Boxing Day will be another memorable event in the WiLDCHiLD Hall Of Fame!

This is Wildchild’s first ever ‘classics only’ event. What took you so long to put a classics event on and how did you go about hand-picking the DJ’s?

I feel that you can only really start to put on classics events when you have enough history for your audience to relate to. The other thing is that WiLDCHiLD is a very forward thinking brand in terms of the varied music policies we push at WILDCHiLD & from the amount of fresh DJs and live acts we support in today’s scene.

Boxing Day is all about a celebration of the very best trance, hard dance and house music there has been over the last 10 years, there’s been some wicked tunes and we can’t wait to get the lot out and stomp the night away!!!

Re picking the DJs, we looked at some of the best producers in M.I.K.E. Push, Signum and K90, who have all respectively created the biggest anthems in their respective scenes on a consistent basis and knew we had to get these guys on board with this event. We then looked at the best fresh production talent available in today’s market.

Trance has huge German stars Ronski Speed and Kyau VsAlbert, the best of British in John Askew, Adam Sheridan and Brisky. Hard dance has the likes of Gaz West aka Dark By Design, Frantic and Nukleuz talent Andy Whitby, the wicked Alex Kidd and the scene’s latest production hero Little Gem.

Add that all up with a wicked twist of fresh exciting DJ talent and some of the biggest brands from across the world and you’ve got 1 enormous party on your hands!

We all know you’re a bit partial to a bit of the old System F ‘Out Of The Blue’, but other than that, what all time classic tune is certain to be pulled from you box!?

What fu*king belter that record is, it’s the kind of thing dreams are made of. I’ve got some other little beauties up my sleeve but I’m not letting anything go before the big event — lol!!!

The event is being held at the super smart Canvas in King Cross. We understand the venue is looking pretty special at the moment, will you be adding to that with the usual array of Wildchild themed décor and production?

The venue just looks amazing, the Blonde Productions team have some awesome venues in The Cross, The Key, Pacha London and more. If you’ve been to any of those venues, you will know no expense is ever spared when it comes to clubber’s comfort.

Look at the venues WiLDCHiLD have held events at in London this year:

Heaven
Alexandra Palace
Brixton Academy
SeOne
Now the outstanding Canvas music palace

We will dress this venue to represent ALL of the global brands involved in this event, Xmas is gonna rock this year!

With the success of your last event, the Wildchild 3rd Birthday @ Seone, how are you putting plans in action to make sure this lives up to that mightly sell out event?

For WiLDCHiLD its all about adding a different flavour for each event. The fact we’ve gone for classics this time round shows a shift in direction and offers clubbers that something little different from the last WiLDCHiLD show. We’re using the Canvas Music Palace for WiLDCHiLD, it’s a brand new venue to get our hands on and rock to the foundations! The DJ line-up quality to the core with new exciting stars joining the bill every single time! I’m confident Christmas Classics will rock your night away and keep you waiting intriguingly for the awesome London Sound System in 2006!

… any sneaky peaks into how you’re going to top it for your 4th birthday!?

All I can say is, were planning something: bigger, better, faster stronger, louder and in our beloved London! It’s ‘Reach For The Laser — Part II’! Here we go, I’m getting excited already — lol!

So onto production… I understand you’ve just literally put the finishing touches to a track with Ehren Stowers of Trance Generation fame. Can you tell us a bit about the track and how this collaboration came about?

I’m in the process of finishing the track with Ehren, the track should be completely finished by Jan. I worked with Ehren in the run up to the 3rd Birthday event @ SeOne, we got on really well and we decided to do some studio work together.

With WiDCHiLD Tunes about to begin in Feb, I though it was the right time to get back in the studio and start producing again. I’ve got a production record I’m really proud of previously and I really want to step up and start firing again, I’m really up for getting in there as much as poss and getting firmly back on it!

Any other production work in the pipeline?

I’m in the process of remxing the 1st release on WiLDCHiLD Tunes, which is the awesome JFK Vs Genix track ‘Die For You’ which Paul Van Dyk has been hammering! The overall package is looking really strong with remixes for my wonderful Reece Elliot self, Brisky and Adam Sheridan, can’t wait to get the vinyl and cdrs out there amongst it!

You’re currently heading up the newest DJ agency on the block, looking after some wicked DJs such as JFK, Ronksi Speed, Kyau Vs Albert, Dave Lee, Brisky, Alex Kidd, Little Gem, Kernzy & Klemenza, Garbo & many, many more. How did this venture come about and how is it all going?

The agency came about so I could offer a vehicle for talented DJs and producers to try and reach world acclaim. I’ve been fortunate to have the chance to manage JFK, who is still rocking clubs for fun and churning out hits to back it up. We’re just about to release another couple of stars to roster line-up and with the release of WILDCHiLD Asia, things are really looking strong for the overall roster as each DJ really adds their own flavour to the BBL brand. A big focus on the agency is some of the fresh new stars coming through the ranks, such as Little Gem, Alex Kidd, Brisky, Will Holland and more, these guys really are the future!

So with all this going on, you somehow still find time to be a DJ… and an increasingly busy one at that! Where have you recently been spinning those wheels of steel?!

Somehow, I’m not quite sure how myself. To be fair, I started getting into the scene as a clubber because I wanted to be an International DJ. DJing for me this year has really kicked off and things are looking even larger in ’06. In the last month alone I’ve been in Jakarta (Indonesia) launching WiLDCHiLD Asia with the wicked Scott Bond, Amsterdam in Holland, I’ve made my debut for Gatecrasher in Sheffield, Slinky Bournemouth, Dance Academy in Plymouth, so you can see it’s really non-stop

I’ve got a busy but really enjoyable Xmas and New Year schedule which sees me play some of the biggest events of the year and next year in 06 looks even greater, with my debut tour of China and Japan, my return to The Gallery @ Turnmills, Goodgreef in Manchester as well as continuing to rock all my other favs up and down the country

What gig has been your highlight of 2005? And where can you really not wait to get back to?

I’m gonna pick 3 and big up some of the best around the country:

1-WiLDCHiLD & Frantic @ The Carling Brixton Academy, phenomenal feeling to play that main arena and see the place go off!

It’s every music purists dream to rock the same place as Madonna, The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Groove Armada and loads more!

2-WiLDCHiLD 3rd Birthday @ SeOne, quite simply the biggest and best WiLDCHiLD event EVER with the most amazing club atmosphere I think I’m ever likely to experience!!!!

3-The launch of WiLDCHiLD Asia in Jakarta in November. The main arena was a similar size to the main arena @ The NEC in Birmingham and the stage production was just unbeatable.

Check www.wildchild-uk.com in about 7 days time, the press shots and video clips should be live and you will defo see what I mean

It’s been the greatest year yet for me, WiLDCHiLD and BBL DJs, all good in the hood as they say!!!

So what’s in store for you in 2006 and do you think you’re ever going to get that much deserved rest!

2006 will see WiLDCHiLD develop further in London, the Midlands, The North, The West and Wales, Scotland and into Ireland.

2006 will see WiLDCHiLD stretch further internationally with tours planned in every single continent.

2006 will see the debut of WILDCHiLD Ibiza.

2006 will mark the beginning of our Album concept, due to kick off at the end of Jan.

On top of that please look out for more developments on www.reeceelliot.com / www.wildchild-uk.com and the launch of planetwildchild.com very, very soon!

But before that we have the massive task of rocking WiLDCHiLD Christmas Classics, see you there!!!

Thanks for your time Reece, Merry Christmas and see you on the 26th!
