Si Gordon & Piers Kirwan aka The Stereo Mutants are 2 dj & producers who since the late 80's have slowly moved up and worked their way into the global house music network.
They have been producing many a house production from DigiPlay Studios based in Newquay (Cornwall), and have gained a vast, and successful catalogue of original productions and remixes that already have appeared on labels such as Defected, Hardsoul, Delecto, Bubble Soul, Cayenne, Club star and many more.
The result is a strictly true house sound and vibe, fusing percussive tribal rhythms, latin melodies, live bass, vocals and acoustic guitar. For the 3rd Mutated Music Release, we see a slamming set of remixes of the latest Mutants homegrown material.
Central Avenue sets us off with his Miami Mix. A real floor shaker, with cool vocal use and manages to bring an uplifting edge, with a flowy vibe, it really works. A really nice breakdown with a strong feeling to it adds to make the whole track sit as a Very dance-floor inspired mix. Lots of building up here and there makes all the difference on this one. Also Central Avenue supplies a Dub mix, and yet again it is really slamming, even though it has a very instrumental musical vibed flow to it.
Dj Circle's mix is a laid back loungey styled affair, this is one for the more strictly "heads" mixes, it warmly makes the vocal seem really singy and drenched in soulful-ness.
To finish of the package, chill out heavyweight Afterlife brings the pace down, and yet again creates a truly mesmerizing piece of music. Managing to capture you from start to finish with the sublime and real sounds created with great depth. Whilst it may not be an obvious choice for most dj sets, the whole track is a journey and really brings out the feeling of the vocal, and song in particular, to great effect.
