Mark Norman

» Phantom Manor (Misja Helsloot Re-Do)

Reviewed by Greg Zizique / Submitted 17-04-08 14:16

Label: Magik Muzik
Format: Digital
Genre: Trance

Phantom Manor was undoubtedly one of Mark Norman’s finest moments to date; originally released in 2004 it went on to thunder its way through any discerning system and onto the dance floor. It was always a massive crowd favourite locally in the South West and for the 2008 update, Magik Muzik enlist Misja Helsloot, who was responsible for mixing two In Trance We Trust compilations.

The Original utilized a metal effects and piano key with a menacing and haunting edge and a scary laugh. What does Misja offer us?

A deep dark broody drum and bass starts off the track with a clear crisp and driving influence, using the laugh and adding some extra touches with a deep but uplifting feel. Steadily working up the pace and packing in some energy into the breakdown which teases you before the recognisable riff collides and slams up with intensity. It continues to drive the riff up higher and then charging along into the drums it releases, and to great effect a solid reaction.
