» Spark / Re-Charge

Reviewed by Greg Zizique / Submitted 03-05-08 14:07

Label: Relic
Format: CD
Genre: Techy/ Progressive

The latest release for the home of DJ Preach’s Relic Recordings features Santiago Nino who has been one of the favourite producers of DJs such as Armin Van Buuren, Sasha, Digweed, Marcus Shultz, Mauro Picotto, Sven Vath and Paul Van Dyk, For Relic Recordings we get presented with two new tracks.

Spark has a great energy to it from the start with a high and punchy kick and techy infused synths that unleash into a dark driving monster. Running at 134bpm the pace is right up there and a cool flow is maintained, steadily building and then a cascading up and down use of the synth makes the track. Picking the floor up and down you have a really interesting sound. Then a deep charge pounds along and when it all finally collides you receive a great release on a track that has got a shear peak time sound. Easily playable in many sets and genres.

On the flip side to Spark, a more progressive orientated track Re-Charge exists. Still utilizing a deep electronic bass but a far more spacious synth and atmosphere it results in a smoother vibe. Little changes and sounds carry it along well into a chunky uplifting progressive breakdown that certainly has a nice refreshing mood to it. This continues for a while longer before upping the anti and suddenly some crazier bending occurs and takes it up a notch or two, another strong release.
