Will Atkinson

» Cloud Surfing

Reviewed by Greg Zizique / Submitted 28-07-08 18:50

Label: CGI Records
Format: Digital
Genre: Trance, Hard Trance

At just 18, Will Atkinson based on the island of Orkney, showcases a clever and impressive trance sound. Utilizing a modern stance on elements from trance with big chords and a tech meets electro slant as well.

Picking up several plays from Judge Jules on his Radio 1 show (4 weeks in a row), it's shaping up for some serious support, and so far Sander Van Doorn, Marco V, Scot Project and Remo-Con have joined the Cloud Surfing.

Will's Original mix starts off with a punchy kick and deep effects which gradually swirl up and build to a massive swoosh and drops a driving synthy bass with a cool power for the floor. Subtle sounds and effects all layer well into a bigger more epic lead that doesn’t quite let rip until further on into the tracks progression. A huge euphoric and epic breakdown enthrals you with a refreshing and uplifting mood. But not one to stop, it carries on with the lead in full play and it gives it an extra push with a cool lasting effect.

Joe-E gets down for the remix treatment and gives it a much harder offering from the start with a more pounding feeling and fast rising synth that works down for a darker floor stomping approach. Nice little changes and driving drums kick some mustard and short, sharp snippets keep the track interesting into the Original breakdowns elements before a harder trance cut up loop storms through until the end.

A really great release for the label.
