Steve Birch

» There's a Void / Solstice

Reviewed by Greg Zizique / Submitted 21-08-08 17:20

Label: Spaced Out Recordings
Format: Digital
Genre: Trance, Tech Trance

Brand new label from Steve Birch that kicks off with the tough rugged tech trancer There's a Void.

Pumping and slightly harder induced beats layer up the mix into some soaring synths that work effectively alongside a driving and almost hard trance styled bass-line that will give off just enough rolling groove for the floor. Using splashes of a spoken female vocal that glides into a slight substance moment that gives off a good strong feeling and haunting in some ways style and sound. Lots of percussion and continued pushing of the drums, effects and odd fills keep the flow going till the end.

Solstice was apparently written after returning from a trip to see the sun rise at Stonehenge's summer solstice and again doesn’t disappoint with a cool drive and clear crisp trance injection with an uplifting big room synth that cuts into a deep little break before continuing onwards and keeping the flow right up there and relatively constant.
