Sander Van Doorn vs. Robbie Williams

» Close My Eyes

Reviewed by Greg Zizique / Submitted 22-01-09 14:27

Label: Nebula/EMI
Format: CD
Genre: Trance

Recent riser in the DJ top 100 poll to number 13 in the world, Dutchman Sander craftily mashes up We’re the Pet Shop Boys collaboration with Robbie Williams for a thumping tech trancer interpretation, that’s got the full backing of the Williams and Pet Shop Buys stables.

Using distorted claps and kicks, a driving bassline and arp riffs Close My Eyes is set for the mainstream audience. Sanders production skills underlay the resting foundation for Robbie’s vocals, and I have to admit I don’t like the vocals.

With additional Club Versions and a Dub I felt that the Dub was the best thing about this release as it showcased a subtle tech trancer in a nice way, the vocals for me, ruined it and I wasn’t impressed.
