Just about to get a new laptop, whats the best way to transfer all the stuff in I Tunes?

Most of it is on my I phone so guess that will just reinstall ?

Should I get an external drive and copy I Tunes etc to that and then reinstall, or can I leave it all on the external drive as a Back Up?

Probably a realy dumb question.

Thanks

Copy the Itunes directory and export the library playlist as an XML which you can import on the next machine. Just make sure the paths are the same.
