Dead Can Dance

Something a wee bit different now. I know I usually review trance and the hard stuff but I was sent the new Dead Can Dance record and I've only now got round to reviewing it. Oops. Anyway...

This isn't your typical DCD album. Usually, the tracks are separate but this time, they are split into two segments: ACT I and ACT II. While the general sound is ambient, there's a distinct Arabic flavour to it. The album houses three tracks in ACT I and four in ACT II. But the tracks are segued, like Banco de Gaia's albums, and form a cohesive whole, almost like a DJ mix album but not.

Its quite a relaxing album actually; not unlike their last record on PIAS, "Anastasis". But this is a fairly different beast in terms of sound, more (mainly) instrumental and lush. Is it Gothic? I'd say no, its a departure from the sound on Spiritchaser, The Serpent's Egg and even Towards The Within but it is still a worthwhile listen. Plus the artwork is quite amazing.

You need this if you like DCD. Big grin
