Do you believe the allegations made by Richard Clarke that Dubya initially practically ignored Al-quaeda + instead (indirectly, naturally) told him to make sure the blame for 9/11 fell on Saddam Hussein so that they had a legitimate reason for declaring war on Iraq + reclaiming the right to the lucrative Iraqi oil reserves?

Reading over this just realised how much it sounds like an essay question (sorry about that) but I'm just interested to hear your views.

I don't think it's about oil, I think it's about the fact that a lot of very senior American politicians have been looking for an excuse to reshape the world in America's image for a while now.

Sep 11th was just the catalyst they needed, in the same way that Pearl Harbour caused a shift in US public attitude that lead to the US rising to prominance in WWII and the Cold War. That impetus was in danger of running out in the post-Cold War era. They needed to find a new bad guy to justify the changes they want to make to the world.

Yes, I believe the allegations, and I tell you no word of a lie that if the American president was assasinated today, I would be dancing in the streets all night in celebration.

That vile individual actually made jokes about the WMD issue last week, showing slides of himself peering under a desk going: 'No, no WMD's here!'

If nothing else, it's an acknowledgement to those who believe the Iraq 'war' was started under false pretences which says, 'Yeah, so what? We don't give a fuck what you think.'

He is crass, stupid and will be judged by history, as will our own imbecile of a prime minister.

"...I feel a lot more upbeat."
"So, you're gonna go out there and grab life...(?)"
"...Yes! I'm gonna go out there and grab life by the throat, wrestle it to the ground and kick it to death."

Yeah, that

(apart from the bit about our own PM)

I believe the allegations. Richard Clarke's account of this all matches the accounts given by all the other whistle blowers to have come out including O'Neil etc

It was the bombing of the federal building in Oklohoma City that woke the US into doing something about terrorism. Sept 11th woke the administrators both in the US and elsewhere into tackling it on a global front. Personally I bleive that its a mix of things:

Part of it is the genuine need to address the issue of terrorism, part of it is the need to maintain western infrastructure and further capitalist neccessity, part to model the world in a shape of the US, the Jewish lobby in the US is dead on ensuring the Holocaust never reoccurs (to them it is a very real notion which some may dispel as paranoia), part hte notion of actually brinign liberty and freedom to countries like Iraq and Afghanistan.

The truth exists in one way or the other but if you have a good life I think its best not to get too upset/angry about it. That may seem crass but unless one has access to the top levels of ones government theories will only drive u mad.

Its almost spring Scratches Chin

i think it worked out on both angles - new bad guy (the scary bearded fanatical muslim) and access to oil. bizzonus.
